self care affirmations

Everyone on the internet is taking about how powerful affirmations are! Like repeating ‘you’re beautiful’ in front of the mirror will somehow make you believe it!?

Don’t get me wrong; I believe in the power of words and positive self-talk to boost your confidence. And even studies have shown how effective affirmations are!

But what I don’t understand is how people can repeat statements that feel false and expect to feel positive rather than like an imposter. I tried the cliché affirmation method, and it only made me feel sick.

Luckily, I finally learned about using affirmations the right way. So here’s everything on how to use affirmations in a way that actually works and doesn’t feel fake. And 50+ self care affirmations that you can start using today!

why affirmations are important & why they work?

As cliché as it sounds, affirmations are the simplest way to transform your thoughts, and change your self talk.

“The most important conversations you have in the world are with yourself.”

Now, I’m not saying that repeating ‘I am rich’ 10 times a day will suddenly make you wealthy.

But your thoughts heavily influence your actions and therefore, the results you generate in life.

So, repeating an affirmation that makes sense to you like, ‘I am working hard to be rich af’ might actually work. Because you start focusing more on things you keep talking about.

This way your brain starts coming up with new ideas to make that goal (being rich af) come true. And it actually motivates you to do better.

why affirmations don’t work?

Here’s a secret nobody’s telling you : Repeating ‘I’m rich’ or ‘I’m gorgeous’, 100 times a day when you don’t believe it even 1%, would NEVER work.

Trust me, I’ve tried it multiple times and it only made me feel like an imposter.

It’s not magic, and if it was that easy, won’t everyone in the world be doing it?

Instead, you need to identify you negative thoughts and convert them to a positive thought that you can get behind. Here’s exactly how to do that.

I also don’t believe that it has anything to do with repeating the same thing to yourself 100 times. I think it’s really about clicking.

The minute you understand that ‘You ARE truly beautiful with all your imperfections!’. BOOM!

The game changes.

You don’t need to repeat it anymore, it comes naturally to you.

But obviously, in the beginning it’s hard to break old thought patterns, and so you need to be more intentional about repeating them to yourself everyday.

how to use self care affirmations

Here are a few ways to make affirmations a part of your everyday life and shift your mindset.

1. Look in the mirror and say out loud

The super famous trick, haha! It may feel strange at first, but there is something so powerful about looking yourself in the eyes while repeating affirmations that will boost your confidence.

2. gather proof that they are true

This is another powerful way to transform your mindset.

Write down 10 ways why you love your body, or how you can see money coming in, or whatever you want to start believing.

I’m sure that your negativity bias will tell you there’s nothing to write but that’s not true! Force yourself to come up with at least 5 things.

This way, you start believing that your affirmations are at least partially true. And the more you repeat them, the more evidence your brain accumulates.

It’s really a full circle!

3. Set reminders

Something that’s your cue to say your affirmations out loud. Use your phone to set reminders.

Here’s another amazing way to do this. One of my friends decided that she’d compliment herself every time she complimented her dog (which she did all the time). Isn’t that genius?

4. pick a new mantra

Make it fun! Pick a new affirmation for yourself that’ll be your mantra for the week. Like “I’m in my hot girl era this week” 😉

Use this affirmations deck so you don’t have to spend 10 minutes everyday coming up with something new haha.

5. Pick a neutral thought

I get it, it’s hard and almost annoying to go from ‘I don’t like myself’ to ‘I am the best and everyone freaking loves me’, like what the hell?

I’ve found that picking a bridge thought works better for me in such cases. Something like ‘I am trying my best to be a better version of myself.’

6. while doing the workout

Trust me, it’s the most powerful and impactful way. Try repeating ‘I’m getting stronger with each rep’ in your workout session today.
