Do you know someone who’s very hardworking but hardly seems to get any results? In my case, that someone was ME. And after wasting sh*t loads of time figuring out the perfect actions to take, I realized I needed to make some mindset shifts first.

In the last few months, I’ve realised that your mindset affects your reality more than your actions ever will.
And before you jump to conclusions, hear me out!
I’m not saying you can get away without taking massive actions. But if your thoughts are aligned with the results you want, you make things easier on yourself. You are open to new ideas and opportunities, you think clearly, and you act more effectively.
7 Mindset Shifts To Make This Year
I’ve explained this in detail below. Here are 7 mindset shifts you need to make to create the life you desire.
1. Mindset Shift From Fixed To Growth
In layman’s terms, change your ‘I don’t know how to do xyz.’ to ‘I’m going to figure it out.’ I learned the importance of this mindset shift from my coach, Faith Mariah.
“I don’t know” is a very sneaky thought because it feels so true. But it holds you back from taking action.
If you want to try something new but you’re putting it off because you ‘don’t know how to get it done’. a) Stop thinking that. b) Just take some action already!
Shift your mindset to ‘ I don’t know yet but I’ll figure it out.’ Remind yourself of everything new you’ve learned in the past.
2. Taking Action vs Planning Endlessly
This goes along with the previous mindset shift. You need to stop overthinking and start doing. You cannot think your way through success.
This might sound contradictory to what I mentioned in the intro. But it’s not. Basically you need to make a decision about what you’re going to do and then stop doubting it.
For example, you want to lose 10 pounds. And you decide to start walking everyday to reach this goal. After 5 days, you hear about a new fad diet that works and begin to doubt your decision.
What good will this do? Apart from creating resistance around the actions you’re already taking.
A better option would be to stick to your decision for a set period of time (one month or 90 days) and then evaluate the results.

3. Staying Present vs In The Past/Future
We all know we need to make this mindset shift, but we all struggle the most with it!
Especially with all the distractions available to us right now, it’s difficult to stay in the moment. And this isn’t just a mindset shift. It’s impacting our health as well.
Our attention spans are shrinking by the second . . . we’ve gone from movies to YouTube videos to tiktoks in a flash.
I mean, how long can you go without picking up your phone? I literally have to turn on the freedom app on my laptop and mobile to turn off all the notifications so I can get my work done.
Some ways to make this mindset shift are :
- Meditation – It helps you to bring you back to the present. You can use apps like medito and headspace to get started.
- Have a Digital Detox Day– Plan a digital detox days once a month. Here are 10 things to do when you’re on a digital detox.
- Spend time doing mindful activities – Deliberately do things that help you tune into the present moment. Things like cooking or doing a puzzle for adults or a paint by numbers.
4. Abundance vs Scarcity Mindset
A scarce mindset looks like “ I don’t have enough.” “ I want/need more.” “If someone else is getting what I want, they’re taking it from my share”.
Whereas an abundant mindset looks like “I have enough and I am always getting more.” “ There is enough for everyone to get around.”
This mindset shift is mainly used and implemented in terms of money. Touchy subject, I know! However, it’s important that you become aware of this mindset shift.
People mostly have a scarcity mindset when it comes to money (“I don’t have enough. And if I spend money, I’ll never make it back.”). And if you want to increase your income this year, you need to start having an abundant mindset.
Recently, these 2 books (You Are A Badass At Making Money and Money : A Love Story) helped me improve my mindset around money.
5. Mindset Shift From A Victim To A Hero
I’m not sure if there is such a thing as a “hero mindset,” but I made it up.
The basic between the two mindsets is believing that everything that happens in your life happens TO you rather than FOR you.
The thing is, bad things happen to all of us. But how we react to those moments and what we do about them ultimately determines our outcomes.
Some of you might not agree to this.
But STOP being a victim of your life. Half of your concerns are just excuses for not taking action. Things like, what will people think, I’m waiting for the right time, and I don’t have enough money, time, or knowledge to do this thing that I otherwise love.
Or other lame versions of this.
Know that you are in control of your life and that everything that happens (good or bad) is happening to help you achieve your goals. Even if it doesn’t seem like it now.
6. Expressing Gratitude vs Complaining
This is the easiest mindset shift to implement, but also the hardest.
The key is to shut the complaints and start observing the goodness around you. If you have a habit of blaming other people or things, this may be a difficult pill to swallow.
Stop believing that everything that goes wrong in your life is the fault of your boss, your mother, your neighbors, celebrities, and, of course, the government.
Yes, some of this might be true, but it’s not helping anyone. Certainly not you!
The easiest way to shift this mindset is by practicing gratitude. I love writing down 3 things that I’m grateful for everyday. THAT’S IT. And you’ll start noticing the mindset shift yourself.

7. Leaning Into Faith vs Doubts
When you’re not getting the results you want, it’s easy to start doubting yourself. We start doubting our abilities. And let the ‘what – ifs’ hold us back.
What if it doesn’t work out? What if everyone hates me? Or if I get rejected?
It’s natural to get these doubts. (I struggle with this all the time.) However, if you are aware of them, you can begin to replace them with a better thought.
Practicing faith and believing in yourself or a higher power is extremely beneficial in these moments of doubt. Whether you’re religious or not, I’m sure you believe in something greater than yourself that is responsible for all the magic we call life, whether it’s god, the universe, or the highest version of yourself.
Tune into that in the moments of uncertainty.
